7 Rice Uses For Survival (Rice Shelf Life? 30 years!)

I think we all know one of the main rice uses for survival…and that’s for food.

And why wouldn’t we eat it!? This delicious grain is chock-full of carbs and minerals, giving us the valuable energy we need to survive.

Not to mention it’s dirt cheap! No wonder rice is a food staple in so many countries.

However, you may be surprised to find out that you can do A LOT more with rice than just eat it. I’m talking about things like treating burns, building stuff, and healing incessant skin issues…all crucial skills in a survival situation.

Trust me – NO prepper’s survival skillset is complete without knowing about these…

7 Rice Uses For Survival

1 – Make Glue

Using only rice, water, and a blender you can transform this normal everyday staple into a very effective glue. This project is super cheap and easy to make!

2 – Heal Your Skin & Body

Rice water isn’t a commonly known survival tool here in the U.S.; however, this simple-to-prepare liquid actually has the ability to take care of many issues related to your health!

Rice water has been used for years to help heal eczema, treat acne, cure diarrhea, soothe sunburns, and purify skin. Rice water can also be used as an effective detergent, electrolyte replacement (making it an excellent substitution for Gatorade, with none of the added sugar), and hair rinse/conditioner.

The amazing thing is, rice water also has just the right pH for your skin, and it can improve your overall complexion, as well as help prevent aging spots. You can easily look years younger by simply washing your face with this amazing liquid.

Who knew the most crucial ingredient to this amazing cure-all could be found right in your pantry!

To take advantage of these amazing health benefits, simply boil 4 cups of purified water, and add 1 cup of rice (any type except for wild rice can be used). Stir the pot until the water becomes cloudy.

Strain the rice from the water, and store the water in a mason jar; the concoction will last up to 4 days in the fridge. We recommend you serve it hot to people with illness, or keep it cold for additional uses.

3 – Rescue Damaged Electronics

If your cell phone, tablet or other electronic device goes for a swim, you might feel like all is lost. Luckily, rice is here to save the day!

Simply fill up a large bowl or bag with uncooked rice. Then, remove the battery and back of the device. Bury each part separately in the bowl, immersing it into the rice, and leave it overnight.

The rice will draw out and absorb the moisture from your device, ensuring that your electronics can live to see another day.

4 – Clean Out Your Grinder

Next time you need to shine up that coffee grinder of yours, look no further than your own cupboard.

Rice has the power to thoroughly clean your grinder, as well as sharpen the blades. It can also absorb the oils and smells of the coffee you’ve previously ground.

Simply empty the grinder, and then grind 1/2 cup of rice until it’s crushed completely. Do this every 3-5 days, and your coffee’s taste is bound to improve dramatically.

5 – De-Clump Your Salt

Few things are more frustrating at dinnertime than trying to season your food with clumpy salt. Not only do the large clumps not fit through the holes, but they also prevent perfectly good salt from getting through.

And, in a survival situation, you’ll need to savor every last morsel you can get – which means you don’t have time to mess with salt clumps – especially when it’s humid outside.

Avoid the hassle altogether by placing a few grains of uncooked rice in the salt container. The rice will absorb any liquid that can get into the container (i.e: from humidity) and will keep your salt completely clump-free.

6 – DIY Heating Pad/Ice Pack

Instead of spending your hard-earned cash on a hot pad or ice pack from Wal-Mart, you can simply use the rice you have at home to help soothe your aching muscles.

First, grab a clean sock and fill it halfway with uncooked rice. Make sure to tie off the end of the sock so that no contents escape.

To make an ice pack, simply put the sock in the freezer, and leave it for a minimum of 30 minutes.

For a hot pad, microwave the sock for two minutes. Let it rest for a minute before using.

Then simply place the sock wherever you’re experiencing muscle tension.

With cheap and simply DIY methods like these, you’ll never have to shop at Wal-Mart for these items again!

7 – Prevent Your Tools From Rusting

Nothing hampers a tool’s ability to do its job quite like rust. This corrosive substance can cause you major problems down the road, and can drastically shorten the lifespan of your tools.

To prevent rust from occurring, simply pour rice into your tool box around the blades of the tools. Since rust is created by the combination of oxygen and moisture, the rice will absorb the water and oil from your tools, ensuring they stay dry and looking good-as-new.
